I did the dialogue edit on this many moons ago with Mix by Vincent Watts. It’s great that something I worked on has been listed amongst so many films I love! It had already featured as number 36 in Sky Movies top 100 all time documentaries -so it has some form here! I worked on the foley for this show. All shot in Queensland, it made me want to get out of the studio and on a plane. I’ve been an Australian citizen -on paper- for a year but now I’ve covered a season in Bryan Brown’s blundstone boots I feel a fraction closer to being ‘dinky di’. I mixed and edited sound for all 18 episodes of this new show. Very happy to be in the studio far away from the action for this one (also the shoots were hectic in places- tight locations with brown snakes crawling over the cameraman’s boots etc, the last thing they needed was an extra person in the way! I’ve posted the trailer below or click here for a link to a Gogglebox review which made me laugh.
I really enjoyed working as foley artist and dialogue editor for this documentary and found the story very moving. Heather Croall shot this moving portrait of her father John, a Glaswegian who ‘left Scotland for Australia in 1970, settling with his family in Whyalla and becoming the local obstetrician. I thought it had a real charm to it. The sound design and mix was carried out by Tom Heuzenroeder and I helped by doing the foley. It is good to see it well received in its own back yard. I provided foley and helped with the effects edit for this feature documentary. Loads of great archive footage weaved together to tell Neil Armstrong’s life story and narrated by Harrison Ford, what’s not to like!
I’m thrilled for Sam Mathews who wrote and directed this after spending a long time getting it off the ground- I got to know her after hearing her pitch it a couple of years ago. It was great to get the chance to edit the SFX for this series.
A big thanks to everyone who helped me with the foley for Simon Rumley’s latest film ‘Once Upon A Time In London’, released today. I worked as supervising foley editor and one of the foley artists. I had a lot of fun covering the sound design and mix for this short documentary. It follows a group of inexperienced French sailors who attempted to sail around the world in a small boat. They were very lucky to survive! It was good to get out of the studio and record sound for the interviews. The sound on the boat was self shot by the sailors using ‘Go-Pros’ so I had big job on my hand re-creating the sound of raging storms in the pacific ocean in surround sound.

News just in. V. happy to hear this. Sad I can’t join the rest of the crew for the Award ceremony back in the UK on 10th December. I may take Duncan Campbell (foley recordist) out for a beer or two.
